During his college years, he was actively involved in his fraternity, holding an officer position, and was recognized for his academic excellence by being inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. After earning his undergraduate degree in 1975, Pat Hughes was admitted to the University of Alabama School of Law, where he graduated with his law degree in 1978. Demonstrating his leadership and commitment, he was selected as a student advisor in his final year of law school.
